Phew!! Day one of our trip was an escapade!! We covered 564 miles in 9 and one half hours driving time to get to St. George, Utah. That should be the longest driving day of this trip!! We took a different route to Barstow than usual. We had heard from someone it faster. It looked faster on the map! We should NOT have listened!! It was not faster and we almost got lost a few times!! The Santa Paula Valley we went through was pretty with groves and groves of orange trees and pointy hill tops all around. Today was one of the days that we lost an hour too that didn’t help!!
The reason we choose to stay in St. George is that we don’t like to stop in Las Vegas! The bright lights and gambling scene is just NOT our thing. And the next best city to stay in for us, is St. George. What it all means anyway is that it we are closer now to our grandchildren. I am especially excited to see little Joanna for the first time!! Can’t want to hold and cuddle her!!
We decided for games today we would start the license plate game. We were surprised to find Hawaii, that is usually a hard one. We found 19 different states. We also played the number game working together as a team and got to the number 51!! So halfway to 100. Some of those numbers are super hard to find!!
We did spy a few odds things. Zzyzx Rd, how is that for a street? It is out in the middle of the desert on the way to Las Vegas. I have no idea where it goes or how it got it’s name. It would definitely come in last on a alphabetical list of street names in the United States. I always think that the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Baker out in the middle of nowhere is really odd too! I guess others did too, because it’s closed. However, the most weirdest thing of the day was the lady we actually saw walk right into Burger King with her child in a shopping cart from a nearby Von’s store. Wow!!
Anyway, we look forward to Thursday being a short travel day and to having some family fun time!!
